CSA/CSE

Clinical Skills Evaluations (CSAs)

This evaluation is not used for the purpose of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Clinical Skills Evaluation (CSE), but is preparatory for this activity.

PGY1 and PGY2 residents will be evaluated one each year.

• Done on the inpatient unit

• Resident should not know the patient

• 90 minutes (30-40 spent with patient, followed by 30 minute discussion)

• Okay to use materials such as H&P, written notes, etc.

Clinical Skills Verifications (CSEs)

In order to be eligible for ABPN certification, three CSEs must be completed.  ABPN guidelines and general principles can be found here.

The general expectation is that residents will complete 2 CSEs during their PGY3 year and one within the first six months of the G4 year. For residents who are Fast-Tracking to CAP Fellowship, the 3 CSEs typically occur in the G2 or G3 year but could happen at other times.  Once completed, please email the signed form to respsych@umn.edu. The tracking spreadsheet will be updated once received.
