The Coordinator Advisory Workgroup (CAWG) has partnered with the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office to develop a Coordinator Mentorship Program that aims to provide a meaningful professional development opportunity for both mentors and mentees, as well as an opportunity to strengthen our coordinator community by building coordinator relationships.
These meetings are not meant for training on basic operations of running a GME Program, but to connect, find joy, and ultimately feel that you are not alone, that you have a friend in this wonderful and sometimes chaotic profession.
New Program Administrator job training should be facilitated through a collaborative effort involving the Supervisor, Education Manager (if applicable), Program Director, and other relevant stakeholders.
Mentors and mentees will be paired based on information provided by each to ensure the best possible fit. Each party will be given the opportunity to agree before committing to a mentorship pairing. The Mentorship Program will provide guidelines, resources and a support structure. Ultimately, the terms of the relationship will be determined by the individuals involved. Our recommendation is that both individuals agree to commit to a formal structure for a minimum of one year, and that the relationship begins by reviewing our Mentor/Mentee Guidebook together.
Whether you’re a brand new coordinator, or an experienced one dealing with a new challenge, any coordinator may benefit from a mentor. Whatever you’re facing, chances are there is someone in our community that can help.
To request a mentor, please take a look at our Mentorship Program Guidebook and Mentee Resources Folder to learn more, then complete the Mentor Request Form. You should expect to hear back from someone regarding your request within one week.
If you’ve been a coordinator for more than three years, or have special skills that have helped you in your work, you have knowledge that could benefit another coordinator! By committing to serve as a mentor, you will be giving back to our community while also gaining meaningful personal and professional development. Mentors that commit to a year long mentoring relationship can participate in an Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQI) leadership assessment and coaching session with Organizational Development Manager Carolyn Hildebrant. You will also be invited to semi-annual mentor social events, where you will have the opportunity to discuss your experience with other mentors. If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please take a look at our Mentorship Program Guidebook and Mentor Resources Folder to learn more, then complete the Mentor Inventory Form. You should expect to hear back from someone within one week.
