Noelle Noyes, DVM, MA, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine

Dr. Noelle Noyes is a veterinary epidemiologist in the Veterinary Population Medicine Department at the University of Minnesota. She joined the College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2018 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Dr. Noyes began this position immediately after completing a prestigious 8-year combined DVM/PhD fellowship program at Colorado State University in May 2018. She obtained her PhD in epidemiology in 2015 and her DVM with livestock focus in 2018. During her time at Colorado State University, she was awarded an NIH T32 predoctoral training grant and a USDA postdoctoral fellowship. Prior to her PhD and DVM degrees, she received an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to obtain her MA in Osnabrück Universität, Germany, where she studied ethnology and anthropology. After obtaining her MA, she worked as a consultant for Mercator Partners in Boston, specializing in innovation strategy and mergers/acquisitions for high-tech companies. After a brief stint in corporate America she left to pursue her dual PhD/DVM. Noelle’s undergraduate BA degree from Amherst College focused on European Studies with a minor in Asian Languages and Civilizations.

Dr. Noyes was recently awarded a prestigious McKnight Land-Grant Professorship. Dr. Noyes’ research tackles today’s biggest challenges in agriculture, food security, antimicrobial resistance and sustainability. Her work integrates observations at the level of microbial and host populations, and the environmental systems in which they interact. A principal investigator on multiple USDA NIFA grants, she has received NSF and NIH funding in addition to funding from the National Pork Board, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Minnesota Beef Council and other research foundations. A distinguished researcher with a highly successful publishing record, Dr. Noyes also stands out for her teaching, mentorship and service at the college, national and international levels.
