NOTE: Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LICs) often offer electives specific to their program. Reach out to your academic advisor for questions on which courses are covered by the LIC.
Some clerkships need permission from the coordinator or course director in order to be scheduled. All arranged courses can be identified by looking at the "Consent Requirement" on the individual course's page in the course directory or using the Requires Consent to Enroll filter in the course directory.
Once you have approval from the course, you must fill out the schedule change request form and uploade your approval email in order for the course to appear on your schedule in MEdIS. Email clsched@umn.edu with questions.
Please note, students may not ask for permission to schedule arranged courses prior to the designated arranged scheduling period (see scheduling timeline for your class).
Away rotations happen during the summer or early fall of your Specialty Specific Transitions Phase.
You will be granted access to VSLO around Dec/Jan of your Clinical Immersion phase; most applications generally open between January-March.
We do not recommend that students pursue away rotations during their Clinical Immersion phase to ensure that you are able to complete all of your Clinical Immersion Phase required rotations. Many institutions will have eligibility requirements that you will not have met until you complete your Clinical Immersion phase.
Reach out to your academic advisor or email vslo@umn.edu with any questions.
All research courses are arranged and require a project and timeline in order to schedule them. If students are interested in scheduling research courses, they can reach out to the course coordinator for the course they would like to enroll in and get permission before filling out the schedule change request form.
Note--Students are not allowed to earn academic credit and be paid a stipend specifically based on the work required for the elective (this excludes stipends as part of RPAP).
