OSCAS offers a range of career services depending on the time of year.
During the bi-annual Career Week, you can attend workshops and meet with the OSCAS team for the following:
Resume and cover letter review
Interview preparation
Job search strategies
Networking and community building
Outside of Career Week, you can meet with an Academic Advisor for a high-level career conversation or request a review of your materials.
How do I schedule an appointment?
BSN students can schedule a high-level career conversation with an Advisor at z.umn.edu/BSNAdvising
Watch your email for details about Career Week (typically held Oct/November and February) including appointment information, workshop schedule, and registration links
MN Students - contact Alexa Squire (asquire@umn.edu)
DNP and PhD Students - please work with your faculty advisor but Kathryn Schwartz Eckhardt (schwa139@umn.edu) is available for general career advice as well
How do I prepare for an appointment?
Start by reviewing the resources on this website.
Generate a list of questions for your meeting.
If you are scheduling a resume or cover letter review:
Use this website as a guide to draft or revise your materials before scheduling your meeting.
Submit the materials you would like reviewed at least two business days before your appointment. You can email these to your Advisor if you did not include them when scheduling.
Where will my appointment take place?
Your appointment location or link will be provided in the confirmation email you receive. Students are now able to choose from multiple appointment modalities. In-person appointments are held in 2-139 Weaver-Densford (Twin Cities) and 390 University Square (Rochester) according to Advisor schedule. Virtual appointments take place over Zoom.
What happens during my appointment?
You can expect your appointment to last the full 30 minutes scheduled.
During your appointment, you will spend a couple minutes getting to know one another - understanding where you are at in the job/internship search process, your preferred employment location, etc. After that, the Advisor will walk you through their feedback. During this time, feel free to take notes if they will help you.
At the end of your appointment you will get a copy of your resume or cover letter and suggestions for which components of this website to refer back to as you update your materials.
Always ask for clarification or more information at any point during your appointment. If you have any specific questions, be sure to ask!
What happens after my appointment?
Work on your materials, networking, community building and/or job search. If an additional meeting would be helpful, schedule another appointment. Alternatively, you may send your materials and receive electronic feedback. Feel free to email your Advisor if any questions come to mind during this process
