PROOF OF CONCEPT
This simplified proof-of-concept prototype has been created according to the fabrication plan outlined below. This prototype will be used to verify that our design meets our stakeholder requirements and engineering specifications.
As a beta prototype, this initial build does not match our exact product but instead was used to help us inform specifications and improvements for our next prototype iteration and our mass manufacturing plan for the final product.
The CAD model is created and assembled on CREO parametric version 9 software. All the dimensions are in pound, inch and second metric system.
The exploded view of the prototype is to explain the process of assembly. The process is divided in 2 parts - engineered/ manufactured assembly and the mounting assembly. The engineered assembly will take place at the manufacturing unit, it included fabrication of the base, making the necessary alterations to the base to fix the other components and fixing of the steel straps at the top. While the mounting assembly only includes fixing the pipe clamps to the bicycle frame along with the mechanism with a set of screws and nuts. - this will be done by the end user.
The base of product is a cross shaped Aluminum frame. It's box dimensions are 12 inch by 8 inches. The detailed view of drawing is linked on the left.
The strap is made of steel and has 2 punched hole in it. The two sides are welded at an angle of 60 degrees.
The assembly drawing consists of following chaild parts-
Cross Frame
Steel strap with rubber coating-2
C-Clamp -2
Lock
Nuts and Bolts -8 each
Hinge
Detailed step-by-step process plans for all the parts to be manufactured in the shop and the assembly process is included in the process sheet. Currently we have included all the process that are required for assembly of our product.
Materials we need to buy for our prototype, processes that cost money and any off-the-shelf materials.
The pictorial representation of assembly of our product is displayed below.
Following are the assembly steps-
Mount the steel strap with the hinge by using screws; fasten the screws with nuts
Mount the cross frame with the same hinge by using screws; fasten the screws with nuts
Orient the assembly on the bicycle frame in the correct position and mount it on bike with C- clamp
Use the lock to link the steel strap and the hole on the cross frame to prevent theft
3. ATTACH C-CLAMPS ON FRAME
6. YOUR ASSEMBLED PRODUCT IS READY
The structural and mesh simulation analysis of the frame was carried out in Creo Parametric- 9, simulation was done on the basis of applying Aluminum alloy material and fixing the bottom of frame, by applying load of 4lb and after running the simulation for given test parameters the results passed the test for the given form of frame.
