About UMSI Mentor Match
UMSI identified a need to expand alumni engagement to build students’ social capital, develop their professional skills, and ultimately promote their career success.
Why participate?
Mentoring can be a fun and rewarding experience! You have the opportunity to advise, influence, and support students during their UMSI journey.
You'll find that your own career, too, can be enhanced by the time and effort you put into a mentoring relationship as you hone your coaching skills and become familiar with the new generation entering the workforce.
Alumni Mentors are an integral part of helping us meet the program’s goal: to address historical barriers that students face in building social capital and accessing the UMSI alumni network.
Match with a Mentee: Matching facilitated by UMSI considers your individualized preferences and leads to a deep connection with your mentor.
Personalize the Mentorship Journey: You will co-create a Mentorship Agreement with your mentee to help them set goals and schedule monthly meetings that work for you.
Thrive with Support from UMSI: Asynchronous mentor training + resources throughout the semester will allow you to get the most out of the experience.

What is required of me as a mentor?
Connect at least once a month (5 times between November - April) with your assigned mentee via video meeting or phone.
Support your mentee as they create and set out to achieve their personalized career goals.
Draw from your lived experience and career journey to help guide and coach your mentee. Provide constructive feedback to enhance your mentee's career and professional skills.
