About UMSI Mentor Match
UMSI identified a need to expand alumni engagement to build students’ social capital, develop their professional skills, and ultimately promote their career success.
Match with a Mentor: Matching facilitated by UMSI considers your individualized preferences and leads to a deep connection with your mentor.
Personalize Your Mentorship Journey: You will co-create a Mentorship Agreement with your mentor to set goals and schedule monthly meetings that work for you.
Thrive with Support from UMSI: Mandatory Mentorship Orientation at the beginning of the program + resources throughout the semester will allow you to get the most out of the experience.
Mentee Expectations
What is required of me as a mentee?
Attend the mandatory Mentee Orientation on November 19.
Connect at least once a month (5 times between November - April) with your assigned mentor via video meeting or phone.
Take initiative to schedule meetings.
Create personalized career goals through self-reflection and conversation with your mentor. You can use CDO resources to help you get started!
Reach out to the CDO team if you are experiencing any issues related to contacting, connecting or interacting with your Mentor, or to get consultation on how to approach conversation topics.
Attend a Mentee Information Session
Interested students MUST attend one of the UMSI Mentor Match Mentee Information Sessions to be eligible to apply for the program.

How to Sign Up for UMSI Mentor Match
Eligibility
UMSI Mentor Match is a program with limited capacity for participants. Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
Students currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program from the University of Michigan School of Information, with a graduation date in 2026 AND have attended a Mentor Match Mentee Information session
