The Student Sustainability Coalition is a group of university-employed students dedicated to building a culture of sustainability at the U-M Ann Arbor campus. Using environmental justice and anti-racism frameworks as a guide, we strive to advance our shared goals of social and environmental sustainability through funding student-led initiatives and fostering cross campus partnerships.

Fischer Farms Natural Foods processes 50 beef and 100 hogs each week to supply restaurants and universities, including Indiana University, Butler University, Rose-Hulman and others. We operate our cattle farm and work with neighboring farms to raise cattle with the same genetics and feed program to raise sustainable, highest quality beef and pork. We deliver across the Midwest & South. In addition, we've been leading a USDA Climate-Smart project.

Zingerman’s Delicatessen is an Ann Arbor, Michigan institution helmed by managing partners Grace Singleton, Rick Strutz, and Rodger Bowser. The Deli is known for full-flavored, traditionally-made foods—from storied sandwiches and Jewish classics to seasonal side dishes and specialty food staples. As they say, “You really can taste the difference.” 

Throughout the decades, the Deli has expanded its physical footprint, scope of operations, and staff. It’s grown from a single 1000-square-foot historic storefront to a campus including the Next Door Café. The Deli launched Zingerman’s Catering & Events to bring “the Zingerman’s experience” beyond the Deli’s doors and opened the Greyline, an event space in the heart of downtown. 

The Deli was founded in 1982 by Paul Saginaw and Ari Weinzweig. Over the years, Zingerman’s—dubbed “the coolest small company in America” by Inc. magazine—has remained rooted in the community while expanding to become a family of independently-owned food and service-focused businesses, known as the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses.

Argus Farm Stop has a mission to grow our local food economy by connecting more consumers to local foods and farmers.  We are an every day farmers market where farmers sell their goods at prices they set, and receive 70% of that price.  In the big grocery system farmers receive 15 cents of the dollar that the consumer spends.  The farm stop model is growing nationwide.

The University of Michigan Sustainable Food Program (UMSFP) nourishes a community of students working for a food sovereign campus. Through community-building programs like shared meals, interactive events, and platforms for narrative change, we work towards a future in which students determine for themselves how food is produced, prepared, purchased, and consumed on campus, rooted in principles of sustainability, justice, and emergence. UMSFP consists of a paid student leadership team and a network of affiliated student organizations and individual collaborators. Together, we leverage our connections and collective knowledge to develop innovative, student-centered food justice initiatives at U-M, working closely with campus and community stakeholders like the Campus Farm and the Maize and Blue Cupboard along the way.

Tenera Grains is the maker of award winning Teffola or teff granola. In 2015, Brad & Diane Smith started growing the ancient grain teff in response to the volatile corn and soy market. They believed trying something was better than doing nothing. Eventually, a gluten free cleaning and processing facility was built to clean and dehull gluten free grains. Their daughter, Claire, started a granola and snack brand to introduce teff to a broader audience. In 2024, Tenera Grains started working with farmers and processors on opening up new channels and helping food manufacturers with their supply chain.

Gavin Orchards is a medium sized farm located in Western Michigan.  We are on the west end of what they call the "Ridge" which is an area noted for producing a large amount of apples and peaches in Michigan.  We are third generation growers.  Growing fruit is considered a "lifestyle" with working around weather events to keep a crop clean from disease and insect damage. We take great pride in producing and grading a quality products.

York Food & Drink is owned and operated by Tommy York, a longtime resident of Ann Arbor. The shop specializes in food and drink produced by artisans- the people who make the wine are usually growing their own fruit. The people who make the cheese are typically making it from the milk of their own herds.
