Kate is a computational physicist in the Glotzer group. She works on simulating squishy bio-physics adjacent projects such as cell-like bodies called “flexicles” and DNA origami systems with a focus on collaborating with scientists from other universities. She loves to kickbox, has a degree in studio arts (concentration in oil painting!), and her life revolves around her 2 Mainecoons named Mr. Duncan Blue and Frank as well as her 7 month old Border Collie puppy named Wallace Edgar (Wall-E like the robot for short!)
Deric is a computational and theoretical cosmologist in the Avestruz Lab for Computational Cosmology & Astrophysics. Currently, he explores the shapes of galaxy clusters and how galaxy density and gravitational lensing can trace the underlying dark matter halos, doing analytical modelling and data analysis on the Vera C. Rubin observatory's data as a part of the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration. Outside of research, Deric spends his time walking his dog Wall-E (a lot), reading books, playing tabletop games, and playing piano (whenever he has motivation).
Segun is an AMO experimentalist working with Tim Chupp. Currently, he is building a high sensitivity Cesium magnetometer for the Chupp lab's nEDM experiment.
Charles is an high-energy experimentalist working with Professor Christian Herwig on the Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX). His work includes creating and improving LDMX physics triggers in software and firmware. Lately, he has also been involved in controlling detuning of superconducting radio frequency cavities for PIP-II at Fermilab. Outside of physics, Charles likes to read long book series, run, and pass the days with his pets and lovely wife.
Liam is a PhD candidate and cold atoms experimentalist working with Shankari Rajagopal on an experiment to explore entanglement dynamics in quantum chaotic systems. Outside of the lab, Liam enjoys playing stringed instruments, taking part in intramural sports, and spending time in the Arb.
Trisha is a 2nd year PhD candidate studying experimental condensed matter physics with Professor Na Hyun Jo. Her research entails the synthesis and characterization of quantum materials. Trisha is passionate about department involvement, education, and outreach—particularly to underrepresented groups in physics. In her free time, she loves to read fiction, hike, and explore other outdoor activities!
Michelle is a soft matter computationalist/theorist in Sharon Glotzer's group. She is broadly interested in self-assembly and geometric frustration in non-Euclidean spaces (particularly hyperbolic space!). Outside of physics, Michelle enjoys glass flameworking, collecting dice, and walking.
Tobias is a theoretical physicist in the research program Assumptions of Physics of Christine Aidala and Gabriele Carcassi, which aims to rederive the basic laws of physics from a handful of physical assumptions.
In his freetime he enjoys observing wildlife and playing ⚽.
