MWAS guest Dr. Tamar Boyadjian (Michigan State University) came to speak to our graduate students and post-doctoral fellows about her involvement in digital humanities, the process of publishing in an academic journal, writing a dissertation, and marketing oneself before going on the job market. The event took place on on Thursday, December 13, at 12:00 in Room 3627 at the International Institute, 1080 S. University Ave.

MWAS held a roundtable workshop to discuss and offer feedback on a dissertation chapter by Alison Vacca, whose dissertation examines premodern Armenia as a frontier of Islam. Vacca also made a short presentation about how the chapter fits into the larger argument of her dissertation. The event took place on February 6 on the 4th floor of 202 S. Thayer.

MWAS held a roundtable discussion and workshop with Dr. Zara Pogossian (John Cabot University, Rome). The workshop focused on her recent article, “Jews in the Armenian Apocalyptic Traditions of the 12th century.” The discussion took place on Tuesday the 19th of March at 6:00 at Sava’s in Ann Arbor.

MWAS guest Dr. Parvaneh Pourshariati (Ohio State University) gave a public lecture on Friday, April 12th, at 4:00 pm in the Osterman Common Room (1022) of the Thayer Academic Building, 202 S. Thayer. The interdisciplinary lecture was titled “Can Popular Romances Speak to Architectural Relics? The Romance of Samak-e Ayyar and Roman Mithraic Temples.” 

MWAS held a workshop with Dr. Pourshariati to discuss her groundbreaking book, “Decline and Fall of the Sasanian Empire: The Sasanian-Parthian Confederacy and the Arab Conquest of Iran," on Saturday, April 13th, at noon in in room 4000 of the Thayer Academic Building, 202 S. Thayer Street. The workshop placed an emphasis on chapters which reread late antique Iranian history from non-traditional sources, such as Armenian texts.
