To unite interdisciplinary researchers and partners to advance sensory health and aging research, accelerating discoveries that improve the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults.
We believe meaningful progress comes through collaboration, shared ownership, and diverse perspectives. By lowering barriers to research, fostering new partnerships, and translating evidence into policy and practice, we strive to create lasting impact for older adults and the communities that support them.
Josh Ehrlich, MD, MPH
Mi-SHARC Director
Sensory health is essential to healthy aging, yet hearing, vision, balance, smell, taste, and touch are too often studied in isolation. As our population ages, there is an unprecedented opportunity to bring together expertise across disciplines to better understand how sensory health influences independence, cognition, communication, and quality of life.
Mi-SHARC was created to bring together researchers, clinicians, trainees, community partners, and policymakers to advance sensory health research and translate discoveries into meaningful impact. Through our three pillars, Research, Training, and Knowledge Translation & Impact, we foster collaboration, support innovative research, and promote evidence-informed practice and policy.
Mi-SHARC is more than a research network. We are a collaborative hub designed to help investigators, clinicians, trainees, and community partners advance innovative research in sensory health and aging. Whether you are exploring a new idea, seeking collaborators, or looking to expand the impact of an existing project, we provide resources and connections to help move your work forward.
Statistical expertise to support rigorous, high-quality projects, well-positioned for abstracts, manuscripts, and future funding opportunities.
From tracking deliverables to facilitating communication among collaborators, we can help keep projects moving forward efficiently

Coordinating timelines, organizing co-author feedback, and assisting with journal specific requirements to reduce administrative burden.
Identifying co-authors, methodological experts, or clinical and community partners, we can help connect you with individuals who can strengthen your project team.
Identifying and accessing the most relevant datasets for their projects while facilitating collaboration across institutions and research groups.
Mi-SHARC brings together researchers across the University of Michigan who study how sensory function, including vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and balance, shapes health and aging. Our goal is to build connections across disciplines and create a shared research community focused on understanding the role of sensory health in cognitive function, well-being, and quality of life across the lifespan.
