This piece is about why I write. In this poem I attempt to mimic the elments of a children's story or fairytale.

One day, many years ago…
The world glimmered with an iridescent glow.
Spawned from the sky was everlasting sun.
I was free to laugh, free to fly, free to run.
In the forest, I found fairies afloat.
On leaftops and satin petal boats.
I watched paper canoes drift along the shore’s edge.
Sailing to new places and journeys ahead.
The magic of youth kindled a colorful world.
A world of pretend.
A world without fear.
A world with no end?
One day, years ago…
The world darkened from that iridescent glow.
Blocked from the sky was a temporary sun.
I could laugh, I could cry, I could run.
In the library, I found stories untold.
On pages the words sat stowed.
I watched images of people and places form in my head.
A place where thoughts and ideas were left to tread.
At my desk, I picked up a pen.
And once more my story glimmered with that iridescent glow.
The magic of writing rekindled my colorful world.
My world of pretend.
My world without fear.
My world without end
