This piece is about school shootings and is inspired by my experiences from high school. The goal of this rap is to share my opinions on school shootings and my opinions on current leaders who support guns and/or gun rights. Further, I hope to create both a logical and emotional appeal for the reader and/or listener. There is a recorded version of this rap; however, I chose to only share the written form on this site.
Censor the Assessor
Alarms play.
[Intro]
Behold, their country bestowed
guns to save their souls.
Heart beat stars playing.
Followed by music.
[Verse One]
Her voice unsteady,
her heartbeats jetting,
the reality of the situation impending.
The silence deafening, threatening, creating a reckoning
Hesitating,
she tells the ten year old boy across the floor
to barricade the door.
Fear soars in uproar.
Uproared, are the parents across the road.
Discord makes the media goad.
Low and behold,
the world looks down as our country erodes.
Why can’t the U.S. just take the high road?
She stands
arms crossed, but empty.
Shots ring out
loud and heavy.
She protects the door,
but doesn't feel ready.
Hide under the drawer, don’t cry,
stay steady.
Children hold hands,
and pray to god they'll make it to twenty.
Twenty minutes pass,
no one's saved,
still stuck in isolation,
praying to god,
not to see their grave out of desperation.
She’s hoping for their salvation.
Is this how she dies without dignation?
She wants to see her love walk down the aisle.
Can time just stop for a while?
Why this life got to be so vile?
You know that feeling when you're ‘bout to die?
Shot to the sky?
Seconds pass by.
Like a capsule stuck between space and time.
Then the world stops in obliteration.
Glass shatters, time scatters, nothing else matters.
Blood splatters.
Small eyes watch, hearts crack, and fracture.
Did her life not matter?
Rather,
She saved her class some time,
but in the end she flatlined.
Just another life,
to add to a very long line.
[Verse Two]
News plays
I watch her story from the news
A fifth grade teacher who didn't have a clue–
her life would end that day.
protecting her students from a man who bought a gun on a whim one May.
Too bad her story’s old news.
And people are immune.
I mean,
If you haven’t been affected by a shooting by now,
Can you call yourself an American right now?
Maybe it's just me,
but when you’re on the phone with
your brother, who's hiding from another,
don’t you start to wonder
if this country’s lost its thunder?
Break
No worries,
‘bout the controversy.
Our leaders will save us
no ounce of uncertainty.
Because God can't,
don’t you see?
You're the only ones who can provide us a sense of security.
So give us mercy.
No,
no leaders don’t inspire adversity.
Yet,
We need guns to protect this country, they say.
Bear your arms and the liberty stays.
Tell that to the eight year old at the splash pad who got shot in the face.
Do republicans even know technology has changed?
You say Charlie Kirk was a saint.
Well how ironic was his fate?
Now, tell me how he is livin’ up to Mother Teresa’s fame.
Did you even know guns are the number one cause of child deaths in the states?
I guess not because you conservatives can’t even think straight.
Did Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland not gain enough fame?
Did Oxford not do the same?
Did MSU not make the front page?
Well maybe the federal police could step in to protect our fate?
Wait no.
They're too busy dressing up as slendermen to innovate.
I see the eyes of TJ Ecklberg shine down.
I guess my pumped up kicks mean nothin’ now.
Do you people even know what it's like to think you're about to die?
Oh wait, right,
Thomas Crooks gave you all an ear patch that night.
Good thing we’re all on the same page,
it's not like that was real, right?
Oh, I’m sorry, did I talk a little too loud?
Did someone’s fragile male ego take a blow too sound?
Hopefully he’s not too busy copying Susan Collins to be dissed by a blonde teenager right now.
Maybe he’ll find the answer for my predicament
when Epstein's network is proven innocent.
Oh wait,
a little too late now.
Hold up,
I’m sorry, try not to take this too personally.
Cause personally, it’s not like I haven’t been in a lockdown.
Can I ask, do these words compound?
Well imagine the truth in which they are found.
[Verse Three]
Found. Ground.
Am I standing on the ground?
Don’t you joke around.
I can’t hear another sound.
My best friend didn’t just get shot to the ground.
That isn’t what I’m hearing right now.
My hearts not breaking,
to these lies you must be making.
The reality of the world can't be happening to me now.
Now,
fast forward ten years later.
Can you wager,
if that little girl saw her best friend later?
No,
She feels like a traitor.
Guilty, for surviving something she had no control over.
Visions linger,
putting her through the ringer.
Now, did I convince you?
No nevermind you’re right,
it's not like I even put up a good fight.
It's all just left wing nonsense right?
But isn’t it funny that I couldn’t bear to have a 10 year old child shot in this song?
Yet that’s the reality you people feed on.
Do you not find that wrong?
Well, thanks for listening to this song Big Brother.
I hope you found it entertaining, you…
Play gun shot.
