Dr. Leah Bricker studies youth science-related learning in schools and in out of school settings, such as science-themed museums and zoos. Bricker helped run an ICLS workshop in Utrecht in 2008 engaging participants in using ethnography and ethnographic methods to investigate learning in everyday settings. Bricker also has experience running workshops for science teachers affiliated with her work at the Indiana Department of Education and the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Project 2061.
Dr. Chris Quintana studies learner-centered design approaches to developing scaffolded tools for learners, primarily middle school science students. He has led the development of a range of computing projects that scaffold different science practices for students in a variety of settings including classrooms, museums, parks, the home, etc. Quintana has conducted conference workshops in a variety of conferences, including pre-conference workshops and tutorials at the CHI Human Factors in Computing Systems conference, and multiple Doctoral Consortia and Early-Career Workshops at previous ICLS, CSCL, and AERA conferences.
Dr. Rebecca Quintana studies how knowledge can be represented and communicated visually, and how these representations can support knowledge building within learning communities and design teams. Quintana has designed and co-facilitated workshops at the University of Michigan, including Peer Assessment in MOOCs design jams and “Alt Text” writing jams.
Darrell Allen studies different methodologies to understand sensemaking of policy documents and student achievement test scores as a third-year doctoral student in education policy at the University of Michigan. Allen organized and run workshops in classroom, psychological, and recovery settings that have covered health, LGTBQ topics, employment, primary and secondary mathematics, and adjusting to university life.
Ashley Jackson is a second-year science education doctoral student at the University of Michigan. She has organized and conducted workshops and mini conferences at the University of Michigan related to activism, race and equity in higher education settings, and organizing around LGBTQ issues.
