Resume

You may want visitors to your portfolio to have access to other documents, like resumes, essays, and Powerpoint presentations. Additional documents can be useful for giving your viewer context for your experiences. For instance:

"I am a fourth-year engineering student at the University of Michigan, interested in a career in designing biomedical devices for hospitals. You'll find in my resume that I was an intern for two years at the Device Evaluation Intern Program within the federal government, as well as a hospital volunteer here in Ann Arbor."

Be careful not to add so may contextual links that you take take the focus away from your own work.

There are three main approaches to introducing other documents to this portfolio:

  • Link to an uploaded file
  • Link to another website
  • Insert a Google Drive (or YouTube) item directly onto an existing portfolio page.
  • Create an additional page within this portfolio website. Hidden pages can be accessed via direct links but do not appear in the site navigation.

When introducing links, strive for consistency. Here are two common approaches:

Please click here to see my resume.

Or, select a whole sentence: Please download my resume.

Avoid making just "Click Here" or "Download" the link, even in a sentence that describes what you're linking to. Such links are not accessible for people who use screen-readers nor are they consistently indexed by search engines.
