Annually, each C-CES trainee will complete their IDP and discuss it with their advisor and the C-CES DEI Manager.
To formalize a mentor-mentee relationship within the C-CES, the mentor and trainee must complete the mentoring form and submit it to the DEI manager.
Informal Communication Training
The goal of the C-CES Informal Science Communication Workshop is to equip C-CES faculty and trainees with the tools to communicate their work in an accessible and engaging manner to non-specialists.

Ethics
To supplement ethical research trainings available at individual institutions, C-CES trainees will complete the Launching Research Course Pt1: Laboratory Readiness and Pt. 2: Tools for Organization and Investigation, offered by the NRMN. These courses explore topics such as:
Mentee Responsibilities
Developing a professional image
Conflicts of interest
Creating and maintaining a laboratory notebook
Data best practices
Research misconduct
Intellectual property

Recruitment
To recruit trainees from all training backgrounds and institutions to the field of biocatalysis, we will partner with SACNAS (Society for Advancing Chicano/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science) and the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Network to promote the Biocatalysis Workshops.
Teaching and Mentoring
Senior investigators and C-CES post-doctoral trainees are required to complete the NRMN's 'Mentoring Graduate Students, Post-Docs & Early Career Faculty' course, while graduate students must complete the 'Mentoring Undergraduate Students' course. Some themes discussed include:
Pros and Cons of different mentoring models
Engaging in mentorship in a more structured way
How apply specific mentoring strategies
Identifying and addressing challenges in a mentoring relationships
Publications and Presentations
The C-CES has partnered with Emory's Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS) to provide C-CES trainees with access to a rich repository of training in digital scholarship.
ECDS's course materials covers topics such as, "Web Design" and "Data & Networking Analysis".
ECDS recorded workshops, originally only available to Emory students, will now be available to C-CES trainees. To view available lectures, please visit this webpage.
Preparing Proposals
The C-CES's partnership with U-M's Office for the Vice President for Research provides C-CES trainees with access to regularly hosted workshops that cover the essentials of grant preparation. Samples of these trainings are provided below.
