NOTE: You will not be able to access your MarylandSmith account after January 31st, 2023. A timeframe of 5 to 6 months was provided to transfer, backup or otherwise download your data. As of January 31st, 2023 your MarylandSmith account has been deleted and is now a mail forwarding address only. Please see the FAQs for more information.
This page shows a walkthrough of starting the transfer of your data from MarylandSmith to UMD G Suite. The full help article from Google can be found here and is recommended reading for this process. Begin by logging into your MarylandSmith account and go to the transfer page here https://takeout.google.com/transfer?hl=en&pli=1. You will see the first step of the transfer wizard as below:
For the Destination account enter your UMD G Suite email address, which is <DirectoryID>@umd.edu and click the Send Code button.
(Alumni should provide their personal Gmail address at this stage as you do not have a UMD G Suite account)
You'll be told to check your UMD G Suite account (or personal Gmail account) to find the email that has just been sent there that contains the verification code.
Login to your UMD G Suite account (or personal Gmail account) and you'll find an email from Google with the Get confirmation code button, click that.
Copy or write down the confirmation code that Google gives you for adding into your Maryland Smith account and switch back to the browser tab containing the transfer wizard.
Paste or type in the confirmation code into the wizard and click the Verify button, you'll then be presented with the window showing what data will be copied and into which account. If you are happy with the defaults (which is to copy the Drive contents and all your Gmail emails) you can click the Start Transfer button.
The transfer will run on Google's servers and there will be nothing more you need to do. Once the transfer is complete you will receive a confirmation email from Google notifying you.
If you have other data in your Maryland Smith account that you would like to keep, such as Youtube videos, or Google Photos, please see the technote from Google here that explains how to use Google Takeout to download a copy of your data. You can also export your MarylandSmith Calendar if you use that and import it into your UMD G Suite calendar using the information in this technote here.
