The Department of Resident Life recognizes the strong interest of staff to engage in professional development including local, regional, and national professional conferences and workshops. These experiences are a source of professional development, improvement of performance in their roles, and ultimately, a benefit to our department.
Definition
Professional development is defined as skill development or expanded knowledge related to your current or future role, or relevant to work in Student Affairs. Examples of professional development include:
• On-campus presentations, workshops, or trainings
• Online training, workshops, or courses
• Presentations, workshops, or trainings off-campus that do not require an overnight stay
• Conferences/Institutes/Workshops/Meetings/Events (referred to as “conference” hereafter) on a regional or national level that do require an overnight stay
Funding
Each fiscal year, funds will be available to be requested by each staff member to be used for professional development, based on FTE. For the FY23 and FY24 fiscal year, individual staff members at 100% FTE may request no more than $1,500 out of these budget lines for professional development. This amount is not a personal allotment or guarantee.
