Music Podcast (2/13, Architecture Building, Ep. 226: Olivia Dean - The Art of Loving/Finding Yourself)
#music, #presentation. #podcast
This podcast was hosted by "And the Writer Is..." with Ross Golan A YouTube channel that has song writers on the show to discuss what happens behind closed doors in the music industry. I have not been very interested in the music industry and only listen to music. I thought this would be a cool podcast to watch since it combines Olivia Dean; an up-and-coming pop star and the vulnerability of being an artist. I watched this podcast during a break I was taking while working on my project for Architecture 400. I really enjoyed the podcast because I was able to combine the ideas that Olivia had with song writing with my major, Architecture.
After watching this podcast, it made me realize that all artist are very similar. This podcast made me step out of my comfort zone by understanding that all artist have to be vulerable. When presenting my ideas in class, I feel scared that I have to defend myself to make sure that all my professors and colleagues like it. This podcast made me realize that it is okay to have ideas that may be out of this world, and as long as you like them and can stand behind them it is okay. Olivia also explained how she learned to love herself and be comfortable with sitting in scilence and expereicnes all levels of emotion. I feel like this is very valuable to any person especially a young adult like myself. I will definetetly keep the ideas of self-love that Olivia explained to heart since I feel like it is a necessity. I learned a lot from this podcast and am excited to put everything that was said into fruition through my artist side of architecture.
Listening to new music (3/14, my house, Bad Bunny's Music)
#music, #dance, #spanish
While I was working on some schoolwork on Friday, I decided to branch out and listen to new music. I decided to listen to Bad Bunny since I was fully introduced to him during his recent halftime performance. Although I don't speak and only understand some Spanish, I focused on the beats that the music provided and how it made me feel.
One of the songs that I liked was DtMF. This some highlighted different female and male voices that blended together nicely. There were some parts of the song that gave a choir vibe that I enjoyed. The beats were upbeat and lively. Another song that was one of my favorites was Baby Nueva. This song only had Bad Bunny singing and was even more upbeat with some parts being rapped. The fast-paced nature of the song gave me energy to keep working that I enjoyed.
Listening to new music is a way that art can function as a mechanism for building community. During Bad Bunny's super bowl performance, a community around Hispanic people was created since tehir music was being represented. Not only did this greaten their community, it also introduced their culture to other people. For example, I knew who Bad Buddy was and listened to some of his famous songs but never took the time to fully take in his music. I took this TRYatholon as an opportunity to listen to his music. By listening to his music, I joined his community and felt connected to the people who avidly listen to his music.
Maker Mixer (3/8, Bel Air Lounge, Leave Your (book)Mark, Collaged Bookmarks)
#visualart #literature #reading
For my Arts Scholars event, I attended the Maker Mixer called Leave Your (book)Mark, Collaged Bookmarks where I was able to personalize a bookmark. For the base of the bookmark, we used cardboard. For the decoration and tassel, there were a lot of different mediums to choose from. I wanted to stick to one simple medium of jems across the whole bookmark. I also wanted the colors to flow nicely together so I first did the purple background and then used pink for the inside. I like how the pinks are different colors and sizes which creates uniqueness to the center. I also used pink string as the tassel to match the overall color scheme. I really enjoyed this event as it was very relaxing and therapeutic.
This event affirms what counts as art. Growing up, I remember there always being bookmark design competitions at my local library and I loved seeing all the different designs that were created. Even though a bookmark is something super simple, it adds more personality and fun into reading. They are also cheap to buy or make which means that people can have large collections of bookmarks that express their personalities. I have always been familiar with bookmark design and think this event really showed that bookmarks can be art. I liked seeing everyone's bookmark and the different approaches they took to creating something unique.
