RA Event (2/12, Cambridge Third Floor, Mold your Mind)
#visualart, #clay, #colorful #creative
For this TRYathlon event I went to my RA's mold your mind event. At this event we were able to play with air dry clay while discussing how to prioritize mental health. I enjoyed this event a lot because I was able to work with a 3D type of art that I haven't worked with in a while. This connected to my major because now in Arch 200 we will be making 3D models so in this event I got to get a head start on some 3D modeling. I think this event was also very significant because it didn't just relate to art and modeling but also mental health and how we can better it this new semester. Some mental health things that we discussed were reaching out when you need help and who to go to on campus. We also discussed who to and where to go if you think someone else needs help. I thought that the clay making was very therapeutic so talking about mental health came with it easy. I decided to make a poop emoji, Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb, and Walter White from Breaking Bad with my clay. Overall, this event was super fun and now I have cute figurines for my desk!
Anyone But You (3/11/25, Cambridge Lounge, Movie with friends)
#music, #film, #love #movie
For the Choose Your Own Adventure, I decided to watch a movie with my friends. I asked them all to hangout and we decided to sit in the lounge of Cambridge Hall to watch it. We chose Anyone But You. The movie was super cute and not only was it a film through visual art but also some music. There were a couple scenes where music was playing in the background and a scene where the two main characters sang a song together. I did not expect to see both types of art so I was very excited to see music in the movie. I chose to do this movie because in my Workshop this semester and my major, I've been making a lot of physical artwork with my hands. In my workshop, I've been making jewelry out of recycled materials. As an architecture major, my class for this semester is a hand drafting class so I have been doing a lot of hands-on activities while also making a model. Since I haven't been able to dive deeper into visual art like movies or shows as much this semester, I chose to take the time to watch a movie for my TRYathlon. This was a perfect way for me to get away from my other work and just relax with my friends.
Arts Scholars Open House (3/10/25, Bel Air Lounge, Speaking to prospective students)
#literature, #presentation, #publicspeaking
The Arts Scholars Event that I attended was one of the open houses for prospective arts scholars' students. I was able to give an insight onto what it's like to be a part of the arts scholars' program and how it's affected by freshman year at Maryland. I was asked questions about my favorite scholars' events, housing, food, and all other UMD questions. I remember when I was a prospective student and talking to students at the time and it gave me a lot of insight on what the scholars program was about. When I was given the chance to do the same, I really wanted to do it. Not only was I able to give an idea of what a scholars student life is, but I was also able to practice my public speaking skills. When the time comes as an architecture major, I will have to present my projects to a panel of judges. Before this time comes, I want to practice my public speaking skills as much as I can so that I become a great public speaker. At the open house, I was asked questions that I wasn't prepared to answer which would get me better at answering other questions when presenting for architecture. The public speaking aspect of the Open House also connects to Arts Scholars for when we present during Arts Fest. During my classes' presentation, I will have to speak in front of viewers and during the Open House I was able to practice this. All in all, speaking to the prospective students was very fun and a good way to practice my public speaking skills.
