Event Logistics (09/13/23, The Stamp, What we do after)
#visualart, #paintings #resin
For the Next Now Fest, I went to the Opening reception for what we do after. I thought it was so cool seeing so many different styles of art. When I saw the short film and images relating to the film hung up it caught my eye. This character would talk about these big questions with this girl. About life, death, the purpose of life. This was super interesting to me how this little silly character was talking about such questions. I also really loved Jenny Wu’s art made out of resin. From pictures it looks just like a picture or painting but looking at it up close in person, it was so pretty to see there was a layer of clear resin that gave her art depth. The blue colors really pulled me in. The color blue reminds me of so many things like the sky and ocean and this art piece somewhat reminded me of the ocean.
Event Logistics (10/11/23, Jimenez Hall, Crocheting For a Cause)
#crochet #art #crochetingforacause
For my Arts TRYathlon #2, I went to the crochet club (Crocheting For a Cause). It takes place on Wednesdays 6-9. I went to the crochet club with my friend from 7-8:40 and it was very fun. I do not have much experience with crocheting so it was a challenge for me. Although the chain looks simple, I struggled to get used to making a simple chain. Eventually, I got the hang of it (a little bit) but I still messed up here and there. Me and my friend decided to make a strawberry keychain and for me, just making the stem and leaves took me the whole hour and forty minutes. I kept messing up the chains and how to connect pieces together. I ended up having to restart three times due to my confusion. I got a little frustrated but overall it was fun. While at crochet club, I really understood how so many different things can be considered art, and a form of self expression. When I completed my strawberry stem and leaves, I was so satisfied and was very proud of what I made. Although to other people, this may just be a crochet stem and leaves, I knew the time and energy I put into it. And to other people this simple strawberry keychain can just be a strawberry keychain, but to me it means something in a way. It shows a new experience and my perseverance. Although this may sound like a bit much over an unfinished crochet strawberry keychain, I truly think that this crochet strawberry stem is a form of art. (Unfortunately I completely forgot to take a selfie, but I have other forms of proof to show I was there. The club was at Jimenez Hall, here is a picture of my friend that I took in the elevator of Jimenez Hall at 8:39, the time we left the club)
Event Logistics 10/30/23, Bel Air Lounge, Stress Ball Making
#stressball #artsandcrafts #art #balloon
For my Arts TRYathlon #3, Me and my roommate went to the Bel Air Lounge to make Stress Balls. This was honestly a challege for me. Putting flour into a balloon with a funnel doesn't sound too difficult, but I struggled. The flour kept getting everywhere so there wasn't much flour in the balloon. Stressball making isn't really for me, but the experience was pretty fun. The community in the lounge was very welcoming and the movie they played, Coraline, was such a nostalgic movie. Art scholars taught me the importance in community. The lounge kind of reminded me of a family in a way. The environment was very cozy and nice to be in.
