Capstone:
As part of the Computer Engineering Program, I will complete an engineering capstone. This capstone is comprised of two classes for a total of 4 class. I estimate that I will spend a total of 16 hours a week inside and outside of class working on my capstone project. This project will hopefully start in Fall 2019 and end at the end of Spring 2020.
At this point in time, I am unsure of the precise details of this project. As I get closer to my senior year I will no doubt get more details and be able to get ideas on how to integrate the Grand Challenges into this experience. I hope that I can complete a project on educational technology, but again I am not sure how projects are chosen.
Learning Objectives:
- Program Wide
I believe that this experience is somewhat related to my grand challenge. This is because I am not sure how the selection process for projects works. I know that I will need to get funding from a person or entity to complete my project, and from my experience not many people are interested in educational technology or changing educational paradigms.
- Experience Specific
- Express ideas in an organized, clear, concise, and accurate manner. As a researcher, I will have to read a lot of literature on the topic I intend to study. This will give me ample opportunity to see how to express ideas concisely and completely.
- Write clearly and effectively. I will write many a proposal and many a report for the capstone. I will thus have lots of practice.
- Effectively connect multiple ideas and approaches. Again, I will have lots of practice throughout my capstone project.
- Formulate questions and hypotheses within the discipline. I will be wiring many proposals and reports as reading reports. I will have lots of examples and lots of practice with these skills.
- Understand how practitioners think within the discipline and view the world around them. I will work with many practitioners during my capstone project, including Professor of the Practice, Dr. LeBerge (hopefully).
- Predict, recognize, and weigh the risks and benefits of the project for others. In writing proposals, I will to fully understand risks and benefits and adequately address both to get my project approved.
- Personal
- Flexibility: If my hypothesis is faulty (which will inevitably happen), I will have to adjust. Also, if something in the procedure is faulty, I will have to fix that as well,
- Being a team member: I will (hopefully) be a part of a team for this project, where I will be able to practice my teamwork skills.
