Of the fourteen Grand Challenges set forth by the National Academy of Engineers (NAE). I have chosen to Advance Personalized Learning. I chose this challenge, because I believe that the current form of education stifles creativity and does not actually teach students the 21st century skills they need to succeed in our globalized world. While I still feel that the method of education that the NAE is pushing for is not the best way to educate students (the most thoroughly studied and proven method of learning is cooperative learning (Herried) not personalized learning, though the two are not necessary mutually exclusive), I do believe that this is a step in the right direction and may give the student the necessary skills they need to succeed in our rapidly changing world.
