Welcome to Gulph Elementary School!
The fourth-grade school year is off to a great start!
We're busy establishing classroom routines and setting clear expectations. As the oldest students in the school, we've reminded them of their important role as role models for all our younger gators. Continuing to demonstrate being ready, respectful, and responsible is key to a successful year for everyone.
Our first group of Gator Guides has been selected! These students are assigned various tasks to assist both teachers and students throughout the building. We're excited to provide these leadership opportunities and will be rotating new students into the program throughout the school year.
Social Studies- In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), we dedicated time to learning all about this vibrant culture. Students enjoyed researching legendary figures within the Hispanic culture and sharing their findings.
Math- We've moved into Unit 2, which is focused on building automaticity with basic multiplication facts. Developing this skill is essential and will serve as a strong foundation for success in future, more complex units.
Science- Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about wetland environments, especially the plants and animals found here in Pennsylvania. We studied the difference between vertebrate and invertebrate animals and vascular and nonvascular plants. We have also been exploring our Gulph Garden. We had a guest speaker from Back to Earth Compost introduce us to the composting process. We are looking forward to starting a new compost project later this month.
Reading and Writing (Wonders)- We are wrapping up Unit 1, where students engaged with various genres, including realistic fiction, expository text, and persuasive text. A key focus has been rebuilding reading fluency and stamina now that we are back from summer break.
