Welcome to Gulph Elementary School!
Gulph’s third-”gators” are having an amazing year so far!
All students have done a remarkable job settling in, as they adapt to new routines, schedules, teachers, and classmates.
Not only are we building a community in our classrooms, but in ELA, we are learning about what makes our community outside of school special, too. There are many cultures and traditions to share with others. We’ve especially enjoyed learning how making dreamcatchers are an important tradition in the Ojibwe tribe community. We are currently learning about national landmarks & monuments and how they help us understand our country’s history. If your family is looking for a fun, free weekend adventure, maybe you could explore landmarks and monuments locally, at Valley Forge National Park!
Mrs. Baker’s class has jumped right into our ELA Pilot Program, Emerge! We learned about how stories can show us new perspectives to better understand our classmates and friends. We have really enjoyed reading the story Watercress, by Andrea Wang, about a Chinese immigrant family.
In math, we just wrapped up Unit 1 in the EDM program. Unit 1 focused on reviewing skills such as rounding, telling time, graphing, skip counting, adding/subtracting on a number grid, finding elapsed time, and we even introduced multiplication. We’ll be amping up our multiplication fact knowledge and strategies in the upcoming weeks. The students will soon see how addition and subtraction fluency is essential in mastering multiplication facts. Remind your child to practice their addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts x2, x5, and x10!
Mrs. Baker’s class visited the Gulph Garden with Ms. Zapata. We had so much fun harvesting seeds from the plants students planted in second grade. The seeds are in our classroom drying out so we can plant them in the spring! Mrs. Diaconescu’s class is excited to visit the garden this week!
We’re looking forward to all of our upcoming holiday celebrations! On Friday, we will have a school-wide Diwali celebration. At the end of the month, our fall festival will be celebrated on 10/31, with a Halloween parade around the school building, as well as classroom party celebrations. If you have clearances on file with the district and have indicated interest in helping at the party, you’ll be hearing from your child’s classroom teacher to plan soon!
