Imma Llop was awarded in the "I convocatoria para proyectos de investigación en compromiso social" from Universitat Jaume I and Banco de Santander, for the work "Design and evaluation of prosthetic hands", related with this and earlier projects within the group, in Nov, 2021.
The student Javier Sabater obtained the prize of the professional "Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Superiores Industriales" of the Valencian Community for his final Bachelor Project “Compact ball joint mechanism for robotic hands based on spherical gears”, related to the UNIQUE-HAND project, in Feb, 2023.
Imma Llop and Alba Roda were awarded in the "III convocatoria para proyectos de investigación en compromiso social" from Universitat Jaume I and Banco de Santander, for the work "Biomechanical and emotional analysis to improve the design and fabrication of sockets for hand prostheses", in Nov, 2023.
Outreach activities/Websites
Imma Llop delivered a seminar about "Anthropomorphic artificial hands" to students of the Biomedical Engineering degree in Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, presenting the work of the group and the objective of the UNIQUE-HAND project.
Imma Llop supervises the UJI-Hand team that has been funded through a project from the UJI-LAB-Innovation call. This call promotes the creation of multidisciplinary teams led by students who develop innovative initiatives organized around projects. The UJI-Hand project focuses on the design of hand prostheses manufactured by 3D printing. In the beginning, an attempt will be made to provide this type of prosthesis to people who need it with the ultimate goal of obtaining a prototype that can compete in the Cybathlon 2024 Arm Prosthesis Race.
Antonio Pérez, J.L. Iserte and Imma Llop present the objectives and advances of the UNIQUE-HAND project in the Research Day organised by the Deptartment of Mechanical Engineering and Construction in July 21th, 2022.
The UJI-Hand team, supervised by Imma Llop, participates in the V Day of Design, Creativity and Technology (September 28, 2022 at the ESTCE of the UJI) and in the Mediterranean Night of Researchers, MEDNIGHT GTS , with the workshop "The challenges of prosthetic hand design" (September 30, 2022 at the UJI).
Imma Llop organises two editions of the UJI-Hand challenge (edition 1 in nov. 2022, edition 2 in nov. 2023), addressed to students of engineering degrees, for the design of a 3D printed body-powered artificial hand. The competition took place on Nov, 16th at the UJI with the participation of three teams. Photos and videos.
Imma Llop gives two talks to high school students about our research in the project as part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2023 organized by the Universitat Jaume I.
Antonio Pérez delivers a talk at the Argot bookshop in Castellón about "Impact of additive manufacturing, robotics and artificial intelligence", disseminating to general public part of the results of the UNIQUE-HAND project and other previous projects (April 2023).
The UJI-Hand team, supervised by Imma Llop, participates in the SCIENCE GTS event at UJI on September, 29th, 2023, showing and demonstrating the use of mechanically actuated prosthetic hands developed by the team.
Networking
On 27-Oct-2021 the team of the project had a meeting with the robotic company Robotnik for presenting the objectives of the project and identifying its interest and possible collaboration areas. Robotnik explained briefly about some of the European projects in which the company is involved and where some of the developments of the project could be tested.
On 28-Oct-2021 Antonio Pérez had a meeting with the President and the Director of COCEMFE Castellón for presenting the objectives of the project and discuss possible collaborations and interests. Some ideas arised about participation of amputated subjects in the project and the design of adapted products and splints using 3D printed technologies.
On 29-Oct-2021 Antonio Pérez and Marta Mora had a meeting with the engineering company Axontec for presenting the objectives of the project and identifying its interest and possible collaboration areas. Axontec could collaborate with the team in the area of engineering the final hand design for facilitating transfer to industrial applications.
On 11-Nov-2021 the team of the project met with the orthopaedic company EMO for presenting the objectives of the project and identifying its interest and possible collaboration areas in the project. EMO showed disposition to collaborate in the selection of prosthetic patients that can participate in the lab tests or in the Cybathlon competition, as well as in other technical aspects about EMG control and socket design.
On 24-Feb-2022 the team of the project had a meeting with ANDADE, the Spanish association for helping amputated people, in order to start a collaboration in the framework of the project.
On 4-Mar-2022 the team of the project meet with Dr. Lluis Guirao, head of the Rehabilitation Service in Hospital Asepeyo in San Cugat (Barcelona) and discussed different issues about prosthetic hand implantation and different control and training methods currently used in his service.
On 13-Apr-2022 Antonio Pérez an Imma Llop meet with the orthopaedic company EMO for interchanging information about the different commercial wrists available for mechanical and myoelectric hands.
On June-2022, Ximo Cerdá, Marta Mora and José F. Fuentes collaborate with I3M institute, UPV, the company Metric Salad and the designer Ana Locking in the animation of hand motions for NFT products.
