Ms. Katherine Garcia is a proud alumna of John B. Alexander High School. She pursued her passion for music at the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor of Music degree and graduating magna cum laude in 2024.
During her time at the University of Houston, Ms. Garcia studied flute under Peggy Russell, flutist with the Houston Ballet Orchestra. She also served as section leader for the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and performed with esteemed groups such as the University of Houston Wind Ensemble, Moores School Symphony Orchestra, and Moores School Chamber Orchestra and Opera. Her leadership extended beyond performance; she held significant roles in music organizations, including Sigma Alpha Iota and Tau Beta Sigma.
Ms. Garcia's teaching experience spans early childhood through high school. She taught private flute lessons and conducted masterclasses within the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, supporting students in their preparation for region auditions, solo and ensemble contests, and concert repertoire. She most recently taught at Carrizo Springs Elementary, where she revitalized the PreK–3rd grade music program and led impactful community performances. Additionally, she has coached UIL Music Memory teams to top placements and presented at district symposiums on early childhood music education.
Ms. Garcia is excited to return to her alma mater and contribute to the continued success of the John B. Alexander High School Band. She is committed to fostering a positive and collaborative environment where students can grow musically and develop a lifelong love for music.
