Jacob Thompson in his 12th year at John B. Alexander High School. Prior to moving to Laredo, Mr. Thompson earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012, and worked in the Dallas area as a percussion private lesson teacher, clinician, and professional musician. Since his arrival at Alexander High School, Mr. Thompson has had the privilege of serving the students in a number of capacities, including assistant band director, math teacher, physics teacher, and SAT prep teacher.
In addition to his certifications in music, Mr. Thompson is certified to teach math and physics, and is certified to teach AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and BC, and AP Physics. One of Mr. Thompson’s passions is to help students explore careers, discover universities, and unlock scholarship opportunities.
While at the University of Texas at Arlington, Mr. Thompson had the honor of performing with such ensembles as the UTA Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, African Drum Ensemble, and the PASIC award-winning Quadsemble. Mr. Thompson also performed with the Southwind, Blue Knights, and Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Tyler Junior College Independent World Indoor Drumline. Throughout high school, college, and beyond, Mr. Thompson played piano in numerous professional cover bands and jazz combos.
Mr. Thompson is currently a composer-in-residence for the John B. Alexander band, and has arranged the Alexander’s marching percussion music for the past 12 years. Additionally, he leads the design team for the award-winning Alexander Percussion Theater, the school’s competitive indoor drumline.
Mr. Thompson would like to congratulate his colleagues for cultivating the best out of Alexander’s wonderful musicians and for establishing a vibrant and rich band community. You have produced excellent work, Mr. Joshua Martinez, Mr. Fuentes, Mr. J.C. Martinez, Mr. Blanco, Mr. Dinkins, Mr. Sidenstricker, and all the fantastic students of John B. Alexander High School!
