First: A word about Power Pointless! We at the University of Illinois Springfield Center for Online Learning, Research and Service present often at academic conferences. We encourage attendees to freely share presentation materials online using web-native tools that encourage collaboration and updating. You may follow the session using your personal mobile device to dig deeper into the topics we discuss and share with others following the conference.
Abstract: New technology tools inundate the educational environment. A steady stream of exciting new hardware, cloud-based tools, wearable devices, and apps continue to emerge. An overview of the latest technology trends and research for online and blended learning environments will be presented during the first hour of this presentation. The remaining time will be hands on, active, engaged learning where participants will engage new technologies and techniques. We will test new tools through out the year for possible use with the participants. Participants will be able to discuss and interact with presenters and each other how the technologies being showcased may help to better engage students and accomplish specific desired learning outcomes. One tool that we may be able to highlight this year will be Microsoft's HoloLens and how this type of augmented reality technology may be engaged with learning activities, support Teacher Education certification requirements, and be able to assist faculty with developing augmented reality environments, as well as drawbacks and considerations needed to introduce augmented reality technologies.
After a beginning large group presentation and discussion, participants will work in small groups to explore several new technologies and discuss how each might be best used to enhance the classroom. Participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts about introducing new technologies and best approaches to utilizing technologies in innovative ways in online and blended classrooms.
