United States Domestic Migration and Projections on Livable Climate Futures

United States (U.S.) residents are moving to the very areas experts predict will be most vulnerable to climate change. Why is this happening, and how can historic and current domestic migration patterns inform cities as they prepare for a changing climate landscape?

To answer these questions, this website explores:

The history of the Rust Belt to Sun Belt migration.
Maps and spatial data on domestic migration within the U.S., predictions on climactic livability by 2070, and an examination of the relationship between the two.
Case studies on three cities of interest: Phoenix, Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; and Duluth, Minnesota.
Patterns on U.S. domestic migration between states, including how domestic migration has changed over time, reasons people move within the U.S., and demographics on who is moving.
