Every year, on the fourth Sunday in October, Bacolod, Philippines, hosts the MassKara Festival. The MassKara Festival was established in 1980 as a result of a crisis and tragedy when sugar prices, the major source of income, were at an all-time low. In addition to all of this, this year saw a devastating ferry accident, and the MassKara Festival was staged to uplift the spirits of the inhabitants.
One of the best festivals in the Philippines is the Masskara Festival. Despite having gone through some economic crises, they nevertheless manage to thrive. We know the Masskara Festival as the "festival of smiles" because people dress up in brightly colored costumes and wear masks to hide their sadness. This helps to convey the message of happiness.
