Wearebuildingbeyondborders is a group of Building Beyond Borders postgraduate students at UHasselt who believe that construction can be done differently. We are a collective that explores new possible paths to challenge the constraints of our professions.

We believe in architecture as a social and political act; in its effects on society as a fundamental part of the process and in the act of building as a tool for innovation and resistance.

We dream of building beyond the limits of conventions.

We dream of building beyond the human.

OUR PARTNERS

Parckfarm

Parckfarm aims to promote ecological activities in the urban environment and to strengthen the social relations of the different communities around the site of Tour & Taxis. The site of Parckfarm forms the stage for our activism. During the festival, we will organize several workshops and activities here.

Hasselt University

The postgraduate certificate Building Beyond Borders is a cross-border learning platform, home at the Faculty of Architecture and arts, Hasselt University.

Z33

Thanks to Z33 and its team we are able to invite you to our exhibition in Hasselt. At Z33 our research and work of this year will be exhibited from April till June. During this period, we will organize several workshops and activities together related to the exhibition.

BC Materials

BC Materials is where most of our geo-based prototypes came to life. They provide us with the right earth mixtures, their extensive knowledge and experience, tools and advice.

Sonian Wood Cooperative

Sonian Wood supports us by making their space available for us to use for the making of the awning prototype and for the preparation of all the pieces that we need for the assembly in Parckfarm.

Centexbel

The mission of Centexbel is to promote research and technological development with the intention of enhancing the cost-effectiveness, quality and production capacity of the Belgian textile industry. They help the BBB group by shredding second-hand textile in order to make bricks.

Dumoulin

Dumoulin is a Belgian brick factory located in Roeselare. They sponsored us with 4 pallets of dried claybricks which did not yet roll into the oven. Dumoulin kindly did the effort to extract the bricks out of their production line by hand, because this is a product that is not (yet) available in mass production.

Kringwinkel Hageland

Kringwinkel Hageland is a collection of 4 secondhand stores in Aarschot, Diest, Tienen and Landen. They kindly sponsored our project by providing us with a great amount of white T-shirts.  You can see us wearing them all the time with the BBB logo!

Nextensa

Nextensa is a Belgian Real Estate Investor. They help the BBB program by proposing storage on the Tour & Taxis site and making rooms available in Brussels to host some lectures.

Steenbakkerij van Membruggen

Without hesitation, Steenbakkerij van Membruggen supported us in our search for a sponsor of unbaked bricks and welcomed us in their factory. They took the time to explain the production process and allowed us to make a video of their work.

Ekoplus Bouwstoffen

Ekoplus Bouwstoffen is a Dutch firm operational in the Benelux region. They sponsored us with loam panels for testing purposes and took the time to have an inspiring talk about earth construction methods.
