THIS IS WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW

here is how we are continuing to cross borders ...

After following the BuilldingBeyondBorders postgraduate programme, many of us continued to cross borders, individually or with a team. The wearebuildingbeyondborders network and list of references keep growing thanks to the invaluable efforts of many.

SINA by Karibu Architecture

In 2020, Kjell Keymolen (BBB postgraduate 2018-19) started Karibu Architecture, with a focus on ecological, circular architecture that creates a positive impact on its 'inhabitants'.

Sina is a small cabin by Kjell Keymolen, Hannah Van Breen and Simon Kaisin

more about Sina

'In Belsele (BE) we renovated a small chalet into a place of relaxatop,. With our ecological and circular approach, we let it meet contemporary quality standards with a sense of aesthetics, flexibility and optimisation of the available space. The relationship with the surrounding forest has been worked into the concept of the entire site. The design focuses on the indoor-outdoor relationship and on the open-closed relationship with specific sightlines that emphasize the quality of the surrounding forest.'

MYHOME by Haest Architecture

This rammed earth wall is the central element in my house. I built it myself, with the help of my friends and relatives, which makes it even more valuable to me.

The Green School of Imloul by studio nous nous

The project concerns an enclosed site with multiple classrooms which contained asbestos and were severely damaged. The entire school grounds were redesigned, the buildings containing asbestos were removed and two new bio-ecological buildings were built by using local traditional techniques and materials.

Following the community's vision, the project consists of a preschool, a library, a small kitchen and new sanitary facilities.

During the construction process, the project focused on co-creation by exploring new aesthetics, typologies and details with the local inhabitants and craftsmen of the village.

Women's Centre in Imloul by Terre à Terre

In this ongoing project, we are supporting the community of Imloul in building a women's centre.

After building the bearing walls with rammed earth technique, we are starting up the next phases, gradually, following the financial possibilities.
