My name is Matt Lyle and I am the Manufacturing Technology teacher at GCVI.
I graduated from GCVI, having taken all of the Manufacturing Technology courses offered at the school during my time there. I started in the trades immediately after my graduation, when I was offered an apprenticeship as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator at Automation Tooling Systems (ATS). During my time at ATS, I developed a passion for training apprentices and helping them learn the skills required to succeed in the trade. Watching their skills develop always gave me a great sense of pride and satisfaction. It was because of this I made the decision to step away from the trade (although it would only be for a short time) to become a teacher.
After graduating from teacher's college, there were not many teaching positions available for Manufacturing Technology teachers and I made the decision to go back to the trades. I worked for a small automation company named Lorik Tool. This company specialized in automotive and green house automation. From there I made the transition to Tiercel Technology, a manufacturing company that specializes in automation, custom machining and fabrication. While at Tiercel I had the opportunity to join their Engineering team and attended Conestoga College to complete the Manufacturing Engineering Technologist program.
My experience in the trades gave me the drive and desire to explore the various sectors and innovations with the manufacturing field.
I am very passionate about promoting the trades and using the knowledge gained from them to advance my students' careers in the technology sector. There are incredible opportunities within the technology sector and I am hoping that the Manufacturing Technology courses help to steer my students onto the path to success.
