At GCVI we are fortunate to have a extremely well-equipped Manufacturing Technology shop.
Students are provided with extensive opportunities to learn the skills required to safely operate and master these tools and use them to bring their ideas to life.
Safety and competency is the foundation of all of our learning in the Manufacturing Technology shop. Across all levels of the Manufacturing Technology courses, students are given opportunities to refine their skills as they work with the equipment to go through the design and fabrication process to bring their innovative creations to life.
Below are examples of some types of equipment that you will have the opportunity to learn how to operate and use to bring your ideas to life. Our shop is equipped with all of the tools and equipment that would be found in a professional machine shop.
Our shop is fortunate to have access to both CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) programmable machining equipment as well as manual machining equipment. Students are able to develop skills around traditional, hand-controlled machining techniques, as well as modern, computer-programmed machining techniques.
When learning how to operate the CNC machining equipment, students also have the opportunity to develop skills using computer-based design software to learn the programming techniques required to run the CNC machines.
The Manufacturing Technology shop is equipped with a number of manual metal lathes, on which students learn and refine the skills and techniques used with these machines during the manufacturing process.
Across all levels of the Manufacturing Technology courses, students work with the lathes to hone their skills and use the equipment in a variety of ways to master the techniques used in the manufacturing sector.
Our shop is equipped with all of the tools required to fabricate sheet metal and tubing. Students develop the knowledge and skills to operate sheet metal rollers, shears, tube rollers and benders, and the other equipment required for fabrication.
As students progress through the course levels, they will use this equipment in more complex ways to fabricate more complicated designs.
The Manufacturing Technology shop is equipped with a state-of-the-art CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Plasma Cutter, allowing students to create their ideas from a metal canvas. Students are the artist as they fabricate their designs and work the metals into their latest innovations.
Working with the CNC Plasma Cutter allows students to learn the latest skills in the Manufacturing Technology trade. They learn the computer programming skills to design their work, and use the Plasma Cutter to fabricate and create their projects.
Students in the GCVI Manufacturing Technology courses learn to weld using a variety of techniques. Our shop is equipped with the major types of welding equipment for students to master as they develop their welding skills.Students learn the techniques of GMAW (Gas Metal-Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten-Arc Welding), and SMAW (Shielded Metal-Arc Welding) during the manufacturing process.
