At GCVI we often get the question "What is Manufacturing Technology?"
Manufacturing Technology is a course that allows our students to be creative through designing and creating through manual and CNC machining, as well as fabrication techniques (welding, sheet metal forming, plasma cutting, tube bending, and more).
In this broad based technology program students will learn how to safely set up and operate a wide variety of Manufacturing tools and machines. As well, they will learn how to interpret engineering drawings, the basics of design, proper use of measuring equipment, manual machining, CNC programing, GMAW welding, GTAW welding as well as SMAW welding.
Manufacturing Technology courses are offered in grades 10, 11 and 12 with dual credit options being offered in both grades 11 and 12 as well M level credits in grade 11 and 12. The senior courses fit the requirements for the Specialist High Skills Major program .
All Manufacturing courses are split into Levels 1, 2 and 3 as well dual credit for grades 11 and 12. This helps our first time students in Manufacturing Technology not fall behind or become overwhelmed with subject material they would have missed in a previous years. All of the courses help our students understand the career opportunities in the manufacturing sector as well, they provide a hands on learning environment for our students.
When selecting Manufacturing Technology as one of your course options, please know that you DO NOT need any previous experience with any of the equipment or tools in our shop. We will teach you everything from the basics to advanced manufacturing techniques, no matter what your skill level is.
