Wingmen

A pilot for a short, comedy web series I developed with a partner. It tells the story of a college slacker who ends up befriending a group of elderly birdwatchers.

This was the second thing I wrote for my first screenwriting class. I was still getting used to script formatting and working with a partner, but my partner Katie was so wonderful to work with. We had a blast putting this script together.

With the same writing partner, I set out to actually create the first episode of the series for a different class. We realized that it was much more complicated than expected to actually produce a script. We had to figure out blocking, casting, lighting, sound and everything else one needs to make a production work.

We reworked the script a bit to make it easier to shoot, planned everything out, and set out on our way to acually make this thing a reality. Things went wrong on set, of course, so we had to adapt, but we adapted gracefully with each mishap and produced a final product we were proud of.

Overall, I think that what we produced was a big success. I really enjoyed doing it and it was a great first attempt at film making. There are things I would change looking back, but I am charmed by what we were able to create with the little experience and few resources that we had.
