The pilot was written in collaboration with my writing partner, Nickolas Jacob, for my Writing for Television class. We worked well together and we were both really behind the idea of writing about a cool older lady being a vampire hunter. It was easy to combine our ideas and develop them into this script. His strengths were more on the comedy side of things, while I focused on the drama and character development.

His strengths were more on the comedy side of things, while I focused on the drama and character development.
It took some time to make sure that out different writing styles were meshing together well and making a cohesive piece, but I think we pulled it off. We also slightly struggled with planting seeds for future plot points, while also making sure the pilot could stand on its own and wasn't dragged down by too much exposition. The structure of the class allowed for a lot of helpful peer feedback, though, so we were never without ideas on how to tie things together nicely.

Charting out where a story will go and developing the world and character arcs are some of my favorite parts of writing. We had to plan out how the show would develop over several seasons and we ended up with a great deal to work with for both the show's supernatural elements and the family drama.
