The University of Georgia’s incoming freshman statistics continue to set new records as the class of 2029 enters the school year with higher testing scores and applicants compared to the class of 2028.
In 2029, the average GPA for an incoming freshman was 4.17, a 0.17 increase from the previous year. The increase in GPAs coupled with an increase in both ACT and SAT scores creates high levels of competition for prospecting students.
“Nervous, like, just, it’s overwhelming. Just for every, any application is overwhelming,” said Sarah Proell, a sophomore at The University of Georgia.
48,000 hopeful applicants applied to The University of Georgia, with only 6,200 freshmen accepted. While the number of applicants increased by five thousand from the previous year, the acceptance rate continues to decrease, making the school more competitive.
“A lot of people, like had difficulty getting in this year,” said Tanushka Mithun, an incoming first-year at The University of Georgia.
The class of 2029 consists of 45 different states and 15 nations, an increase from 2028. The University of Georgia continues to accomplish their goal of admitting 1 transfer student to 2 first-year students with more than 2,050 transfer students starting their journey at The University of Georgia.
Why I Wrote This Story
I wrote this story because this topic is important to the UGA community. It reflects the university's growing competitiveness, and writing this story helped me practice gathering and organizing data to show the year-to-year comparisons clearly.
