Athens-Clarke County leaders have dedicated $15 million to roadway safety projects after five fatal accidents this year, Mayor Kelly Girtz announced Tuesday, Sept. 23. The plans include a new pedestrian crossing near The Classic Center and a redesign of the intersection at Hawthorne and Oglethorpe avenues.

In 2029, the average GPA for an incoming freshman was 4.17, a 0.17 increase from the previous year. The increase in GPAs coupled with an increase in both ACT and SAT scores creates high levels of competition for prospecting students.

This taught me how to think like a communicator, breaking down policy into simple visuals that are easy to understand. This was very clear on what the concept was and hopefully engaging to an audience with a short attention span.

Doing this I learned how to translate AP Style rules into quick, visual tips that connect with journalism students who scroll fast and visually learn.

Writing this story taught me how to break down a long, detailed board meeting into clear, accurate information that readers can easily follow. It also helped me practice balancing hard news like financial decisions and the superintendent search that show the impact on the community.
In completing this project, I gained critical skills in data extraction and breaking down complex and unstructured PDF documents. I also found financial trend analysis (using co-pilot review), and producing professional, visualizations using both Google Sheets and Datawrapper for clear communication.
