Rationale
I documented my hike at Angels Landing in Zion National Park. I captured extended video clips for B-roll and took plenty of photos to illustrate the story visually. Using Adobe Express and a template, I designed the interactive with earthy green and yellow tones to reflect the natural setting. The bold, modern fonts complemented the adventurous spirit of the hike, known as one of the most dangerous in the U.S. The interactive begins with a brief history and overview, followed by a scrollytelling feature that walks the viewer through each part of the hike with embedded video, photos, maps, and narrative text. I also linked to an interactive map using Knight Lab tools, included details on obtaining a hiking permit, a packing list, and some of my favorite personal photos to make the experience both informative and approachable.
For the social media components, I created an Instagram reel and two interactive stories designed to engage young adults and families. The reel was styled in a minimalist and inspirational tone, using smooth B-roll, bold text, and a trending audio track to match popular content formats. The Instagram stories served as a connected series: one included a link to the National Park Service’s permit site, and the other offered swipe-up access to my interactive web project. Both were styled with a bold, adventurous aesthetic to reflect the energy of the hike while remaining accessible to a broad audience.
