Whether for a class project, a dissertation, or any other activity involving the collection of data from living individuals, faculty, staff researchers, and students, including undergraduate and graduate students, must submit a research proposal to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Although IRB is a necessary step toward conducting research that involves humans, many students, novice researchers, and even faculty members may find it daunting and overwhelming.
To address this issue, our project team is designing two elements, a desktop adventure game for students to learn about IRB and a mobile app to assist in the application process.
The purpose of this project is to design a game that will guide UF upper division undergraduates, graduate students, and young researchers to successfully prepare and submit research protocols to IRB and provide context for each step in the process. The game is not just about knowing the steps of submission, but also learning why each step is important.
This project aims to design a learning technology targeted at UF upper division undergraduates and graduate students. The technology was developed specifically to address the research needs of our target population to give them a head start on their research journey.
