Screencasts are incredibly helpful tools that can be used in many different professions. For instance, students like me can demonstrate how to navigate a website or utilize software. An educator may employ a screencast to explain how to upload an assignment to the learning management system. Screencasts serve as valuable educational resources, enabling users to quickly learn how to use software or websites by providing visual and auditory information. I created a tutorial on Kahoot, a game-based learning platform that increases student engagement and participation. This website enables users to develop educational games or search the library for pre-existing games.
Creating the screencast was relatively easy because Camtasia is user-friendly. To make a screencast, open the application and click 'Record.' Once you're done recording, click the 'Stop Recording' button to begin editing the video. You can add transitions and title pages, similar to Apple’s iMovie editing software. I enjoyed how easy it was to export the video to YouTube. You log in to YouTube, and it will begin the uploading process. Lastly, you copy the embedded code into your ePortfolio so everyone can view it. Camtasia is available for download but requires a subscription after the seven-day free trial. A downside of the software is its high cost after the trial, with plans ranging from $180 to $500 per year.
