Rewrite the direction in student/family friendly language.
Be explicit. Don’t forget to include the goal of the assignment and to provide step-by-step explanation of the task(s).
Provide models and examples.
Paper Materials:
Use an address label, sticky note or other marker to attach your accessible directions to your paper documents.
Print materials with accessible directions that were created using annotation tools such as Texthelp PDF Reader and Kami.
Digital Materials:
When assigning an already created web assignment, use Diigo to add your new directions to the webpage via a sticky note.
When assigning a digital PDF file, use Texthelp PDF Reader (via Typewriter or Push Pin) or Kami (via Comment) to add your clarified written directions to the document. Also use annotation tools like shapes (e.g. arrows), underlining, and highlighters to clarify text directions (Kami or PDF Reader).
Digital Materials
Use Vocaroo to record your verbal directions and post a link at the top of your assignment or in your learning management system.
Use Texthelp PDF Reader (via Voice Note) or Kami (via Voice Comment) to create and embed verbal directions within a PDF file.
Paper and/or Digital Materials
Use your Smartphone or screen-cast-o-matic to record verbal and visual directions. Upload your video to the cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive, Weebly) then create a QR code of the video link
Paper Materials:
Add the QR code or video link to the worksheet before sending home (stapled on top).
Print materials with QR codes or video links that were created using annotation tools such as Texthelp PDF Reader and Kami.
Digital Materials:
Add link to digital assignment or in your learning management system.
Use Texthelp PDF Reader to post a note with a link to a supporting image, a model of a completed document, or a link to a video tutorial.
Use a Kami Video Comment to create and embed a video recording of you giving your accessible directions. Use a Kami Screen Capture to create and embed a screen recording of your accessible directions and a model or example with the assigned materials.
