As a leader, my values are established in completing ethical work as an efficient team while delivering high quality work. From the Values Inventory Assessment, my highest prioritized values involve 1. Growth, 2. Ethical Practice, and 3. Freedom/Time. Reflecting on each of these, they entirely fit my personality and my goals. As a leader, I focus on up-skilling everyone involved, as being a lifelong learner is what differentiates good from great quality work, as well as great contributors to an organization. I personally believe that learning and education is directly related to personal and external growth. This connects to ethical practice, which I hold dearly as I feel that the way I achieve goals are simple, but fundamentally grounded in the sense of being able to work hard, and sleep well at night by conducting my life honestly and transparently. This leads into the second assessment, being the 16Personalities trait analysis. I personally got the Consul (ESFJ-A) personality, specifically with the role of sentinel. This resonates perfectly with my personality considering I love acting as the rock that my team can rely on consistently, and dependently to be present to facilitate, coordinate, and push us to achieve goals. Being a consul is understandable for my personality, as I am assertive and know the direction I want to take. This ties in to the concept of giving and taking, where the Givers & Takers assessment helps understand the individual ideology we take to giving and taking. My score on this was 47% Giver, 33% Matcher, and 20% taker. This perfectly connects to my leadership style, as I love to act as a mentor to those around me to teach what insight I may have regarding the subject. This however, relates to a team oriented and personal goal of mine; to learn as much as possible. For this reason, I am a matcher and a taker as the minority proportions as since I want to share knowledge, I expect to learn from others, and build up skills from those around me as part of the learning process. To conclude me as a leader, I am an assertive and consistent person that can be trusted to learn and share as much as possible in pursuit of the team's success and individual growth for everyone involved.
Confidence - Optimism - Resilience - Engagement
Begin - Assess - Seek - Elect/Evaluate
From understanding myself as a leader and person, it is important to communicate this to those around me if we are to all have good team chemistry to work well towards the common vision we hold. Others should know that I will naturally try to take initiative and lead us, and while it may seem that I have a definite direction in mind, every opinion is welcomed and heard. While I am not perfect and have much to improve on and grow, being direct with me is the best way to influence a change in me or my practices. With this said, I heavily believe in the concept of adding value. This relates to the design assignment of Value-Add, where I add value by taking charge, cultivating discussion, and facilitating timing as well as the collaborative process of problem solving. This directly ties into how I make my value known to others. Instead of waiting for an opportunity to fit into the team with a role, I simply jump to take the lead. If someone else is leading, I act as a close second who attempts to facilitate the process towards the goal while helping execute the organization's vision. The significance here connects to another activity of Influencing and Motivating Others Towards a Common Vision. The context in which I lead others is in any situation where I have prior context or have a personal goal to achieve which involves the collective benefit of others. One favorite example of mine is Michael Jordan's road to 6 championships. While Jordan was easily the most hardworking individual on his time with the Chicago Bulls, his motivation behind pushing his teammates to get better was the idea of them sharing the success of the championships as well. This inspiration is the same motivation I share of influencing everyone towards a common goal. For example, in Engineering our team's goal is to collectively create a greatly working piece of machinery, or in my major's case, software. This also connects to my career goal of being the manager of a team of software engineers with a finance company such as JP Morgan Chase or Bank of America, as we must all work together to reach the organizations goal, where some teammates will need to be motivated and inspired to satisfy team's needs for each role to be working as a well-oiled machine. This example relates to the Talisman Activity, where my talisman was a jersey of Michael Jordan. This relates to the bigger picture not of his individual impact on basketball; but the teams impact. Jordan alone with his magnitude of talent, skill, and mindset was absolutely great, however not enough to win a championship on his own. The team's success and growth is just as significant as improving individually, and this is my approach to working and managing teams.
