Based on the multitude of assessments completed in a reflective matter, a positive mindset in addition to skills create an effective leader. The first assignment with involvement of reflection is the Exploring Leadership Interview. This assignment relates to development and personal growth that has influenced my attitude and state of mind. In this process, a key influence in life has been my dad, where I interviewed him on the significance of work ethic and motivation. This was taught to me from an early age, where I am now understanding that this combined with balance and sustainability is the key to being a driven and successful worker and leader. I consider an asset of mine to be a great work ethic, with a skill being the ability to motivate. This directly correlates with skills discovered in the next assessment, being the Origins and Influences Story. This in hindsight, is the influence and development of my upbringing that has led me to this current path with the traits and skills that I currently have. A large origin as to why my attitude is to be as cautiously optimistic as possible is because of my parents' divorce. I'm grateful to say that everyone involved is much happier and content now, however during the time that it was occurring, it was an intense period in my early teenage years. While it was a struggle in some aspects, the amount I had learned from it as well as what came out of it is a key aspect of why I feel that I am stoic and unbiased as I am today. With this said, as this entire website is a portfolio as to my journey and how I've grown, I'm still human, and just another person with the same struggles, just in different situations and contexts. I still have much to learn and think of myself as a lifelong student. This attitude of mine was learned from a combination of my parents, as my mom was the short term management of influence, and my dad taught me about long term management. Both of these combined I feel has made me stronger when thinking of day to day aspects of life, and preparing for the long run. This leads into the final reflective assignment regarding my skills, involving addressing the future and its challenges. The assignment Plan for Action and Learning is a perfect way to conclude this segment of my portfolio, as my plan for action revolves entirely around bettering myself and my abilities through learning new skills and how to handle different situations. This was in regard to planning out my time while allocating time and energy to learn on the side, where my focus is to spend time reading on skills that I need improvement with, such as empathy and humor, as well as spending time on investing in my professional skillset.
Plan for Skills to Develop
The reflection above perfectly connects with this section as the plan to develop my skills is a roadmap balancing personal, professional, and internal goals. Personal goals involve improving my personal connections with those around me, professional skills involve building my capabilities of learning new work skills, while internal goals involve optimizing my well being and mindfulness physically, emotionally, and mentally to become the best leader I can. This relates to the Mindset & Mindfulness Assessment, where my mindset was that I have a growth mindset with the capacity to take risks while having a backup plan in mind. This perfectly summarizes my intent as a student as person. My goal is to learn as much as possible; as I find it fun and useful to apply. The correlation of having a growth mindset can be applied to My Leadership Design: Best Self, where I envision the best of me being an avid, motivated learner who can apply, teach, mentor, and primarily deliver great quality work while leading others to learn in the process and achieve the same success. While I believe in improving myself, the team's success is my own success. This has a large impact on my influence, where I would like to reflect on the impacts of the assignment My Leadership Design: Influence Tactics. While I am attempting to include more aspects of servant leadership into the way I lead teams, my primary means of influencing groups involve being direct, and giving constructive feedback towards an attainable but high standard goal. This involves me using conscious and covert leadership to actively influence people, as acting passively simply doesn't fit with my vision of leading or my personality. With this said, I value mentorship and taking initiative to be two of the most influential tactics in the professional environment. Developing soft skills is my next path to upgrading my influence and leadership. My plan for developing each of my skills to next build are to allocate an hour on weekends as well as a total of 2 hours on weekdays to either read books, watch tutorials, or discuss with mentors how I can develop these traits. They will then be put into practice within leadership scenarios, such as leading group projects.
