Keystone Values
What do you believe leaders need to know, do or be like?
I believe that leaders should have traits that are more selfless and goal oriented towards the big picture. The assignment Assess & Reflect: Values, shows that the traits involvement, ethical practice, growth, and using time well. Reflecting on this, these practices speak to the fundamentals of running an honest and well run organization given hard work and adaptation. This relates to the assignment, Assess & Reflect: CORE and Resilience, where resilience combined with confidence, optimism, and being engaged allows for leaders and teams respectively to continue adapting and learning from challenges. This in relation to Leadership Design: Attributes, where one of my greatest attributes is the love to learn. This I feel is the fundamental basis of leading and facing challenges. With regards to all three of these assessments combined, a triangle of morals, actions, and adaptation can be created. These 3 concepts are the foundation of being a hardworking, ethical individual with the competence to continue improving in my opinion. With this said, leaders should be down to earth people with the goal of serving those around them and pushing everyone to reach both individual and organizational goals, while providing everyone with the opportunity and equity needed to succeed and thrive.
Values Leaders Should Have Include...
What do you believe leadership should be like – for followers, for teams, for organizations?
Leadership for followers and organizations should be to cater towards the needs of the employees serving the company and the consumer. With this said, from the perspective and followers we can reflect from Assess & Reflect: Followership. From this, I understood that I am geared towards independent and group thinking oriented around active engagement as a follower. With this said, I very much like to act as the initiator of discussion, as I like to make sure everyone is both involved and heard. This brings up the conditions of optimal leadership and followership, where we can bridge the connection from the assignment My Leadership Design: Best Self. From this, it can be understood that the best in me is brought out by the right people, setting, and time available. Specifically, I love working collaboratively with a block of time available to plan and execute, with people that are motivated and driven to accomplish the same goal. The worst quality a leader could have is to be individually focused or selfish/egotistical, as the success of the team is the success of the leader, where the team is the priority as opposed to the individual's own agenda. With this said, the needs of the team come before the needs of the leader. This relates to the assignment Assess & Reflect: Transformational Leadership Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), where individualized consideration, inspirational motivation, and intellectual stimulation were my highest scored attributes. I heavily believe in the idea of mentoring, inspiring, and challenging as a means to grow and teach others, as I learn much in the process as well, therefore everyone involved benefits. Management by exception such as simply meeting the bare minimum is despised by me, as it returns to the conversation of good vs. great, where I believe you cannot achieve greatness by putting in the minimum as that's simply a flawed fallacy of an expectation. This connects back to the big picture, where I believe leadership should be to serve followers, guide teams, and achieve for the organization.
