In the course, HDFS202: Diversity and Families, we have explored the complexity and diversity of American families. We have learned about differences between families based on socio-economic class, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, household composition, and other factors. As we have explored our own families throughout this course, we made our own personal photo essays of our family life in this current time of COVID-19. A photo essay is a group of photographs that are taken to tell a story, describe emotions, or explain the lives of others. They are accompanied by text in which the text and photographs work together to reinforce the point the author/photographer makes with their work. The times that we are in now are something no one was prepared for, one day we were all at school and at work as if we were going to do it again the next day and suddenly we are under lockdown, instructed not to leave our homes unless it was an emergency. Our class used this photo essay assignment as an opportunity to show a day in our families' lives while quarantined in our homes. We hope that you enjoy seeing our lives through a camera lens. - Devyn DelGenio
