Construction waste is currently a big issue. “Annual construction waste is expected to reach 2.2 billion tons globally by 2025” (“Construction Waste”) That is a staggering amount of waste that is coming from construction sites that could be used for other purposes. I am looking forward to researching how this waste can be reduced or recycled. Billions of dollars are put into construction projects every year, so some of that money and attention should be put into the amount of waste that is being generated.
There are many benefits to recycling construction waste, one being, recycled materials are actually more durable and less expensive than creating new materials. So not only is recycling these materials safer for the environment but they can also provide us with better materials overtime. Another benefit that can come from recycling these materials is that many new jobs can be created. In 2016, 175,000 jobs were created because of construction recycling projects.
In addition, construction waste has many topics that we can discuss. For example, how to collect different types of construction materials. And how to reuse the different types of construction materials through recycling. And there are many articles and news about construction waste online, we have enough resources as our background knowledge.
As the group gathered information about recycling construction materials, members of the group interviewed construction companies in the U.S. and China regarding the disposal of construction waste. There are two interviews below, each with six questions.
